The Famous Arthur Daley's Clearance House is an Australian-owned and operated business based in the heart of Melbourne city that started as an answer to meeting the needs of budget-conscious shoppers, following the closure of bargain basements of big city department stores such as Myer. It was also a way to help out manufacturers fighting to clear excess stock, discontinued lines and cancelled department and retail store orders.

We opened our first "concept store" opposite Melbourne Town Hall in 1992. From 1992 to 1995, we moved to temporary locations along Swanston Street. Then in 1995 we relocated to the corner of Swanston Street and Flinders Lane. In mid-1997 we moved into the basement of 33 Swanston Street, and, in 1999, we became a permanent icon in the City of Melbourne. Following the popularity of our Melbourne store, we launched our first regional outlet in Geelong in 2007. Today, The Famous Arthur Daley's Clearance House continues to service the needs of budget-conscious residents, workers and visitors to Melbourne city and Geelong. 

Our business is unique. We are a small-business discount variety retailer modelled along the lines of the GJ Coles and Myer bargain basements of yesteryear. We have strong, established relationships with our suppliers, and are able to pass on these savings to our customers. The "Arthur Daley's" brand has become a household name associated with "great discounts", "amazing specials" and "low prices". We are a leader in providing value to the Australian public.

The business is the brainchild of Peter A Ferne, a well-respected Melbourne entrepreneur and philanthropist, who has played an active role in the City of Melbourne since the 1990s. Peter is a Justice of Peace and former Bail Justice who has sat as President and Vice-President of the Australian Retailers' Association, Chair of Residents 3000 and Vice-Chair of the Melbourne District Police Community Consultative Committees, as well as run for the position of Melbourne Lord Mayor. Peter oversees a committed team who works hard to ensure our customers walk out of our store satisfied with their purchases.
